Easily sidetracked, I am often caught studying random science or historical facts, or taking even more random personality quizzes when I’m supposed to be writing.
My favorite past time includes staring into the void on the couch, having a shower concert, and binge-watching shows. My little family doesn’t settle in one place for long, so I’m always looking forward to our next destination—but definitely not excited about packing or unpacking.
Btw, 'Lei' is pronounced as 'lay.' It is my grandma's maiden name, and it has a super cool meaning in Chinese: thunder.

I usually get drawn to fictions that have melancholy settings and dark themes. Personally, I don’t shy away from deep discussions surrounding heavy subjects; I like to learn new things and see reasons from different perspectives. This sometimes cause problems in writing, because I would get too caught up with finding answers and solutions.
I also tend to get too consumed with my plot and characters that I stray from the genre, which also causes readers feeling confused and difficulty in marketing. Oops.
Thank goodness for my editor. She makes sure the madness doesn't happen again. Ever.

I love learning about mythologies from different cultures, but Chinese and Japanese will always have a special place in my heart. And you will find them in my future stories soon :)
When I'm procrastinating, I devour anime, manga, and manhwa. If you can't tell from the picture, I dressed up as Kiyoko Shimizu from the Japanese manga and anime Haikyuu! when I went to a writers conference in 2023. Nobody recognized my character though :(
I actually wanted to become a mangaka when I was small, but because I didn’t have access to trainings for such a profession, I settled with book writing. This is in no way claiming that writing is easier. It is simply a means to create that fits my lifestyle at the moment.
Maybe I’ll turn my books into comics one day, who knows?
I do my best to research and make sure I get my facts right in every fiction book I write, but please be mindful that fiction is, in fact, fiction. Any real-life knowledge is expected to be used in a creative and fictitious manner.
Even though I don’t shy away from dark and heavy subjects, you will not find explicit content in my books. In other words, you will not find on-page sex scenes, excessive description of violence or gore, or strong languages.
